TAORA Productions is an independent production company creating and producing work across the mediums of theatre, television and film for the UK & beyond. Working predominantly in (albeit not limited to) new writing, our aim is to impact lives with the presentation of innovative and emotive storytelling, to encourage change, provoke discussion, and always to entertain.
TAORA Productions was founded in 2016 by Actress and Writer Tara Alexis.
TAORA Productions is passionate about creating diverse art, and bringing equality to each medium and across all areas of production.
TAORA Productions stands for The Act Of Rising Again. This is the Encarta dictionary definition for the word Resurgence.
Tara began acting at the age of nine after successfully auditioning for a place at the BAFTA award winning Television Workshop in Nottingham. At the age of 19 she moved to London and gained a BA Hons Degree in Creative Industries at Greenwich University before training as an actress at the Drama Centre London. Tara’s transition into writing and producing came when she decided to create her own opportunities due to the lack of acting roles available to ethnic minority women. In 2014 she was one of 6 winners in the Lambeth Emerging Playwright competition. In May 2016 Tara graduated from the National Theatre’s Developing Your Play Course. In 2017 Tara was commissioned by Titilola Dawudu & Tamasha Theatre to write 2 monologues (I Dream of Drake and Lights Out) for Hear Me Now Audition book for actors of colour. Hear Me Now was published in 2018 and listed as Oberon’s ‘fastest selling book of the year’. I Dream of Drake was selected for performance at the Hear Me Now book launch in October 2018.
